December 16 - Christmas at School What did you or your ancestors do to celebrate Christmas at school? Were you ever in a Christmas Pageant?
Dad: My dad lived on a farm in the country and like all the other school kids he volunteered to be part of the children’s choir that sang in their country church on Christmas. My mom was a city girl and they also got to sing at church. I actually went to the same elementary school as my mom, and also participated in the children’s choir. I remember one year as part of the service several of us were picked to help act out the nativity gospel. Since I was the biggest kid you can probably guess what part I had --- yes I was the donkey. Now when my kids were real young, our church also had a kids’ nativity scene. We helped by lending our daughter’s tricycle to play the part of the donkey. Funniest thing you ever saw … Mary riding a tricycle to the stable. Everyone in the church had a good laugh.
I never knew my dad was a donkey. My husband will find this hilarious and never let my dad live it down.
Mom: We had a Christmas party at school..We also drew names from the class and bought a gift for that person.
